All,

I visited with Hank yesterday and he is recovering well. He is now working on building up his strength and hoping to be discharged to a rehab facility within the next week or two.

He has been given a rolling walker to help with his walking. He needs to relearn his balance due to his previous surgery and 2 stays in the hospital.

At this time Hank and his family are looking for a bed in a rehab center and Hank is hopeful one will open up at the VA Hospital. His estimate stay in a rehab facility will be about 2 weeks.

He continues to request no visitors at this time as he is still on antibiotics and tires easily.

He is in good spirits and looking forward to getting home soon.

Worthy Brothers,
One of our own Brothers, Matt Pasick, is in need of prayers.  He’s been hit with a rare genetic disease, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, where it affects the lungs and liver with irreparable damage.  The only known ‘cure’ is organ transplants.  He has now been admitted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN for the foreseeable future until organs become available.
Please keep Matt in your prayers during this difficult time.

God bless you all,
SK Mike Potochnik, GKKnights of Columbus, Council 11234St. Catherine of Siena, Wake Forest, NChttp://kofc11234.org

Good morning all,

Sorry for the delay in providing this update, I’ve been having my own issues.

I saw Hank on Wednesday and he is doing better.
He is recovering from the pneumonia and it is almost gone. He still has a little fluid in his lungs but is improving.

He is still on oxygen and an antibiotics for his bacterial infection.

He is looking better but still tires easily. His balance is off and he is getting some physical therapy to  help his balance improve,

I suspect he will not be hospitalize much longer and he will be going into rehab for a couple of weeks. He and his children are discussing where he will go for rehab.

Thank you all for your prayers for Hank. I will provide another update once I get more information.

Saint Catherine Family Bingo Night

March 1st, 2019

Brothers,
I was recently contacted by the school Athletic Director, Bonnie Mallory, who is looking for some assistance with landscaping needs for the school.   There is a plan to expand the soccer field which will require some earth build-up and retaining wall.
Bonnie is not quite sure where to start and has asked me to reach out to the council to see if the Knights might know of anyone who has the expertise in this area and can help her get started.  It would be ideal if that person was a parishioner.

If you know of anyone would you please let me know so I can pass along the contact information to Bonnie?

Thank and God bless!

Good Afternoon, Mr. Potochnik:
I am Bonnie Mallory, the Athletic Director for our school here at St. Catherine.  I would like to speak to you about a few ideas I have and, if possible, get some help from the Knights in accomplishing some goals we have for our athletic department.
First, our soccer field is in great need of improvement.  We are starting a series of fund raising events in order to cover the costs of those needs. For example, we are hosting a Family Bingo Night on March 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Second, we would like to create an on-campus cross country course through our property.  I truly need some guidance in this area, as I have no landscaping expertise.
I am an ardent supporter of and believer in Catholic education in all areas of life. Athletic endeavors give our children the opportunity to put into practice the theory they learn in all of their classes at Saint Catherine Catholic School.  It teaches them fortitude, charity, sacrifice and doing all for the greater glory of God.  The athletes pray before, during and after their athletic practices and competitions.  Our coaches are an extension of the religious education they receive from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm daily.
Please call me at your convenience.  I look forward to working with the Knights and I hope to benefit from the vast amount of experience each Knight enjoys.
God bless,

Passing of Brother Harold Brickman

February 28th, 2019

Worthy Brothers,
I’m saddened to pass along the news that our brother, Harold Brickman, has passed away.   Thank for all the prayers offered for Hal and his family over the last few weeks and months.

Please see the note below from our brother Allen Rohl, requesting prayers for the repose of Hal’s soul as well as for comfort for his wife Alice and his children.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Thank you and God bless,

Faith in Action – Novena for Life

February 23rd, 2019

Brothers,
As Catholics and Knights of Columbus, we are called to promote and firmly defend a Culture of Life that values life from the moment of conception to natural death.  Therefore, I am requesting that you join me and your brother Knights as we pray a Novena for Life leading into Lent this year.
We will embark on nine days of prayer beginning on Tuesday, February 26th and concluding on Ash Wednesday, March 6th.
If you are already praying the Novena for Repentance, Renewal and Rebuilding currently being prayed by Knights of Columbus as the bishops meet to discuss the sexual abuse crisis, no worries, just add the Prayer for Life to your daily prayers.  God asks us to pray unceasingly!

The prayer for life can be found below and I will also leave prayer cards in the Narthex near the exits this weekend.  Please feel free to share this with your friends and family members.  The more people we have to join in prayer, the better.

I also ask that send me a quick reply if you and your family members intend to join us in prayer so that I can report our participation to Supreme.
Lastly, and I know I don’t need to ask, but please keep Fr. Bill John and Fr Magee in your prayers, as well.

O Mary bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life: Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witnessto it resolutely, in order to build, togetherwith all people of good will, the civilization of truth and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.  Amen

Hey Guys:
As we approach the Lenten season, I know we could all use some “manly” fellowship so let’s meet up . Don’t hem and haw about, just put it on the calendar and be there (with wife approval, of course 😁). Feel free to invite others with the same MO.

Let me know if you can make it. I hope to see all of you there!
