Knights and Squires Basketball Night – 9/15 from 7 to 9pm

September 11th, 2016

Dear Brother Knights and Squires:

As you might already know, we now have Knights and Squires Basketball Night once a month.  It’s on every 3rd Thursday of the month from 7 to 9pm and is on the 15th this month of September.  This is an opportunity for us to get together for bonding and camaraderie among Knights and Squires and at the same time have fun playing the game of basketball.  Besides, we all need to exercise, right?

For brother Knights who have sons/daughters/grandsons/granddaughters 10 years of age or older, please invite them along with you.  If they are younger than 10, if they enjoy playing basketball and if you believe they can keep up with boys 10 years and older, I can make an exception and allow them to play.  The kids don’t have to be Squires.  Please ensure, however, to wear proper gym shoes so we don’t damage the gym floor.

I need 8 volunteers at most for the event (4 Squires and 4 Knights).  The Squires are to be the primary speakers while the Knights are backups/mentors.  As we all should do for every Knights and Squires events, it needs to be Christ centered, and as such, it’s a good practice to talk out loud in front of people (a key role of a leader) and to live our faith with others through prayer.  I would like to empower the Squires with full support from the Knights at these events.  Please sign up at the link below to volunteer:

Below is the format of the event and where volunteers are needed.

1)      Opening prayer – need a volunteer
2)      Reading the Gospel of the day – need a volunteer
3)      Up to 5 minutes of talk about the Gospel reading.  The topic should be “what the Gospel means to me?”.  If the Gospel is too difficult to relate to, the reading of the day that goes with the Gospel should shed some light. – need a volunteer
4)      Play basketball – all participants
5)      Cleanup (tidy up the gym and sweep the floor) – all participants
6)      Closing prayer – need a volunteer

I hope to see you this Thursday.

In Christ,
Anthony Nacional
P.S. Below are the readings on September 15th.  Note that there are two Gospel readings to choose from.

Reading 11 COR 15:1-11

I am reminding you, brothers and sisters,
of the Gospel I preached to you,
which you indeed received and in which you also stand.
Through it you are also being saved,
if you hold fast to the word I preached to you,
unless you believed in vain.
For I handed on to you as of first importance what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures;
that he was buried;
that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures;
that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
After that, he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once,
most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
After that he appeared to James,
then to all the Apostles.
Last of all, as to one born abnormally,
he appeared to me.
For I am the least of the Apostles,
not fit to be called an Apostle,
because I persecuted the Church of God.
But by the grace of God I am what I am,
and his grace to me has not been ineffective.
Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them;
not I, however, but the grace of God that is with me.
Therefore, whether it be I or they,
so we preach and so you believed.

GospelJN 19:25-27

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

GospelLK 2:33-35

Jesus’ father and mother were amazed at what was said about him;
and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
“Behold, this child is destined
for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted
and you yourself a sword will pierce
so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

We can take joy that his suffering is done and he is truly in a much better place; but it is with sadness that we say good by till we too are called to the Father.

Prayer request

September 5th, 2016

Many of you have asked for an update about Andrew. He was discharged from the hospital the next day. It was determined that he had developed an anal fissure for the fresh blood in his stool, but still don’t know how the dark blood got into his stool. We are scheduled to see a gastroenterologist.

He is doing well and has been cleared to put some weight on his broken femur.

We are grateful for the prayers!

Thanks,

Anthony

Brothers,

We took Andrew to the ER earlier this afternoon per his doctor’s advice. He just got admitted at least for the night in the hospital for observation, for he is passing blood in his stool.

Please continue to pray for Andrew and my family.

Thank you and God bless,
