Message from the Grand Knight

Saturday, June 13th, 2020

Brothers,
I wanted to inform you that the motion to elect our new Council Officers was unanimously approved at our business last Thursday evening, so I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our new Officers and thank them for agreeing to take on the responsibility of shaping the future of our council.  I’ve gotten to know and to work with most of our new officers over the last few years I’m very happy to say that our council is in very good hands.
Although I am not able to deliver this message to you face to face, I want you all to know that it has been my honor to serve as your Grand Knight for the last two years.  I am so proud to be a part of a group of men who hold tight to their Catholic faith while living out our principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.  Although we’ve faced many challenges over the last two years, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, you gentlemen have always been ready to rise to the occasion.  I know first-hand that we have touched many lives and made a difference for many people in our parish and community.  I am truly honored to call you my brothers.
To all the Officers that have served with me, I want to thank you for your dedication and commitment.  I cannot overstate how invaluable your advice and support have been to me.  I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know you and I look forward to working with you all in a new capacity.
Brothers, I know our incoming Grand Knight, Joe Palko will be able to count on the same support you have given to me. I ask that you please keep Joe and all of our officers in your prayers as they prepare to lead our council forward.
Thank you all again and God bless!

Your Brother in Christ,

June Business Meeting Reminder and Other Important Information

Wednesday, June 10th, 2020

Worthy Brothers,

A reminder that our June business meeting will be held on June 11th at 7:30 PM (this coming Thursday).  Meeting details can be found at the bottom of this email.  We will be finalizing the election during the meeting, so, if you can, please attend and show your support for our new officers and Grand Knight.
I also have a few other items to share with you this week:
Ordination to the Priesthood – Last Saturday, Jairo Maldonado was ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Zarama at the Cathedral.  Our Worthy Treasurer and Vocations Chairman, Dave Rogers, attended as a representative of our council.  You may recall that Fr. Jairo Maldonado was one of the three seminarians that we supported through the RSVP program this year.  Please continue to offer your prayers for Fr. Maldonado as he begins this new part of his journey in service to our Lord.

Consecration to the Holy Family – If you and your family are looking for ways to grow in spirituality during the pandemic, please consider devoting your family to the ideal model of familial love set by Jesus, Mary and Joseph through the Consecration to the Holy Family.

The Knights of Columbus has put together the Consecration to the Holy Family program to assist you and your family in consecrating yourselves under the protection of the Holy Family. “In this prayer, we ask for the aid or intercession of the perfect son Jesus Christ, Mary the perfect mother, and Joseph who is a model for every father”.
I have attached the prayer card and the recommended steps for preparation.  For more information, please visit http://kofc.org/en/what-we-do/faith-in-action-programs/family/consecration-to-the-holy-family.html

Career Network Ministry – Employment and Career Assistance

Tuesday, June 9th, 2020

Dear Brothers,
I lead the St Joseph Ministry team here at St Catherine’s that focuses on
employment support; mentoring, coaching, resume reviews, linkedin tips &
hints, interviewing techniques, etc, focused primarily (but not
exclusively) with our Parish Family.

We closely partner with the Career Network Ministry (CNM) team based out of
St Michael the Archangel in Cary and the Brother Knights of Council 6650
that lead this Ministry. CNM works with other Parishes within the Diocese
of Raleigh and they host free weekly online Webex educational meetings that
are proving to be especially helpful during the pandemic. As our country
attempts to return to work with a phased-in approach, we are seeing a
patchwork of opportunities emerging and yet laid off job seekers often need
guidance and effective networking to land new opportunities. Others remain
on furlough who need emotional and spiritual support.

Each one-hour program begins with a prayer and then guest speaker’s cover a
range of relevant topics to help working professionals, unemployed and
those who are underemployed.

CNM’s next program is this Thursday, June 11 at 8:30 am.

Prayer Request

Saturday, June 6th, 2020

Brothers,

Our brother Knight, Terry Maher, is at Rex ER. He got bit by a copper head
when he was out walking with his grandson earlier today. The doctor is
keeping him under observation for the next 8 hours to see if Terry needs an
antivenom. He is alone in the hospital due to COVID-19 and also in pain.

Please pray for Terry that he recovers soon and to alleviate the pain he is
feeling. For Anne and the rest of the Maher family, peace as they await
for Terry’s return.

In Christ,

Dear Brother Knight,

Following the pain, outrage and violence resulting from the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd, I send this message in a spirit of reconciliation, asking you to join me beginning this Sunday — the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity — in praying our Novena for National Unity & An End to Racism.

We should take to heart the words of Pope Francis. No one should “tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism.” We must all “defend the sacredness of every human life.” And we must redouble our efforts to overcome the suffering and injustice which result from the sin of racism. As we celebrate the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity, we call upon all Knights and people of goodwill to join in prayer. Let us remember that, as Pope Francis says, “nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost.”

Our prayers are inspired by our legacy as Knights of Columbus — may we carry on in the same spirit of unity that has inspired the Order to welcome Catholic men of all backgrounds, regardless of race, from our very beginning. This is especially important as we move forward as “Knights of Columbus: Knights of Unity,” which was the theme of last year’s Supreme Convention.

As the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Time is cluttered with the wreckage of broken communities which have surrendered to hatred and violence. For the salvation of our nation and the salvation of mankind, we must follow another way.”

We pray that we all can follow this other way and come to understand that injustice to a black person is injustice to all; that regardless of race or culture, all people, without exception, are made in the image and likeness of God, and are deserving of our respect and love.

Please join me in offering this prayer for national unity and an end to racism. May we pray for the strength to learn from the courageous example of Dr. King and from the leadership of our Holy Father, and continue to work to build a society that recognizes the dignity and brotherhood of all.

As men of faith, let us together confidently turn to prayer during the nine days of this novena, beginning on Sunday, June 7, and concluding on Monday, June 15.

May God, through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Civilization of Love, hear our prayer.

Fraternally,

Carl A. Anderson
Supreme Knight

| Dear Brother Knight: As we continue to be challenged by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, I am proud of the tremendous work you and your brother Knights are doing every day in service to Leave No Neighbor Behind. The greatness of our Order shines most brightly, and Father Michael McGivney’s vision continues to be brought to fulfillment, because of the work you are doing.  The strength that enables us to respond so well in times of need is derived from our membership of more than 2 million men who are dedicated to the principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The coronavirus has presented new challenges to membership recruitment, but we have adapted and made possible new avenues for men to join our ranks, including the online exemplifications that are hosted by the Supreme Council each week. I personally encourage you to make use of these online exemplifications, which are an important tool to drive the growth needed to allow us to respond to the challenges the coronavirus presents. The Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity is a wonderful opportunity for new men to join the Order and for First and Second Degree members to advance to the Third Degree. Detailed procedures and the schedule of upcoming online exemplifications are listed below. Thank you for your efforts to ensure that our Order continues to grow and thrive. May Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Venerable Servant of God Father Michael McGivney guide our efforts and keep us and our loved ones safe. |
