Help Needed: Sunday St Catherine Feast Day Picnic

Wednesday, May 29th, 2019

Brothers,
A reminder that the St. Catherine Feast Day Picnic is this coming Sunday from 12:00-5:00 pm.  We are in need of a few brothers to help out on the cooker and at the serving tables.  Many of our original volunteers will be unable to attend the picnic on the rescheduled date, as they will be at the Special Olympics Event in Cary which is on the same day.
Please let me know if you are able to help out.
Thanks and God bless,
SK Mike Potochnik, GK

Memorial Day Message

Monday, May 27th, 2019

Worthy Brothers,
I hope you all had a safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend.  I wanted to take a quick moment to honor the memory of our service members who sacrificed to protect the freedoms of our great nation and to give thanks to the families that also made sacrifices on our behalf.
God bless you all,

Vivat Jesus!

| The Knights of Columbus has a unique partnership with the Special Olympics and has helped disabled athletes train for and compete in games around the world. Knights of Columbus councils have assisted with all aspects of the program from fundraising to feeding the athletes, organizing and judging events, and providing equipment and awards. Without the support of the Knights, participants would not be able to train for the events that they love.
– Who we help: Children and Adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Please see the 2018 Year End Report.
– What is it: Changing the World Through Sports. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports. The goal of Special Olympics is to create an environment whereby every person with intellectual disabilities is welcomed, accepted and included. Join the dignity revolution! Help advocate for a more inclusive community for people with intellectual disabilities by taking part in one of the many opportunities to make a difference!
– Where: Special Olympics North Carolina is organized at the grassroots level with nearly 100 accredited local programs serving almost every county in the state.  Most local programs are organized by county. The Special Olympics – North Carolina (SONC) has a great lookup tool you can use to find your local program.  Click here to see it.
– When: All year long – Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) offers sports training and competition in 19 Olympic-type sports to nearly 40,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Athletes train for a minimum of eight weeks with an average 1-2 practices per week. Sports competition is available for eligible athletes 8 years old and older, and there is no age limit.

Important Upcoming Dates:  2019 Special Olympics NC Summer Games – Raleigh Area May 31 – June 2 (Athletics, Bowling, Cycling, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Softball Skills, Softball Team, Swimming, Volleyball) More than 1,500 volunteers will be needed in a variety of roles throughout the weekend. Hank is doing well.

I visited with him yesterday and he has come through the surgery well. His spirits are good and he has a positive attitude.
Fortunately, he is not in any pain or suffering from the surgery. At this time, he doesn’t know when he will be coming home. He’s waiting to be evaluated by physical therapy and a plan developed.

He is unable to reach the phone in his room so anyone calling won’t get an answer.

Hopefully, he will come home soon or recover enough for visitors but still requests time to heal and recover.
Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Hank has asked me to send you an email letting everyone know that he is back in the hospital.

He will be having surgery on Tuesday.
He requests no visitors or phone calls until he recovers.
I won’t know anything more until Wednesday.
Upon learning more I will share it with everyone.
