Cc:Dear Men of Truth!Quietly, in Catholic parishes across the country, there is a “new” men’s “movement” emerging. Men are learning what it takes to become men in Christ and how we are to evangelize the world. The terms “new” and “movement” though do not convey what is really happening. These words would imply an innovative human activity that has not been seen before. In fact–in truth, the “movement” is that of the Holy Spirit and not of man. Nor is it “new.” The action of the Holy Spirit, transforming the lives of men, can be seen throughout scripture from the Old Testament through the New Testament. We have been studying the Acts of Apostles for the past few months and have seen how the apostles have been moved from their hiding places of fear to becoming courageous men in Christ who boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus to the world even the face of persecution and martyrdom. That is an amazing transformation for such a bunch of “bonehead losers.”Yet for each of us, this journey to holiness and becoming a man in Christ is new and does require the movement of the Holy Spirit in us. We are called to prayer and holiness indeed, but we are also called to be witnesses to the love of Jesus as we engage the world. It is the duty of every baptized Catholic and Christian to bear witness to the truth. Our dear Christian women cannot do this alone and men must take up the responsibility that God calls us to fulfill.Next Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King. Jesus Christ, the Name above all names, the Lord of lords and King of kings is our savior and brother. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall be, and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord. It is fitting as we prepare to celebrate Jesus as the ultimate king, lord and savior that we learn how to be more manly Catholic men!To help is in our quest, Fr. Tony’s dad, Major Anthony (Tony) DeCandia (USMC Ret.) has boldly offered to talk to us about his own conversion story and share his wisdom and experience in becoming a man in Christ.Whether you have been a regular attendee at our Saturday morning men’s group or not, I exhort you to take just one Saturday morning to be nourished, encouraged, and challenged in your efforts to become a man in Christ.Becoming a Man in ChristSaturday, November 21SCS School Dining Room7:00 AM – 8:30 AM or until we are talked out(Life goes on, so feel free to leave early if needed.
